CJ Academy FAQs
Biblical Integration
What is biblical integration?
We see the world through our experiences and our wisdom, impacting how we interact with the world around us, with others, and within ourselves. When we view our lives through a biblical lens, we experience God’s goodness, His love, and His purpose or calling in our lives. To fully integrate a biblical worldview in education means we aim to understand His creation through His Word. We see the value in other people, we see God through nature, and we better understand our place in His plan. Integration of God’s Truth into the classroom helps students gain critical thinking skills and the ability to apply God’s Word to their daily lives.
Why is biblical integration so important?
Today, our children face many challenges deciphering the world’s truth from God’s Truth. As students, they not only have to confront fear and anxiety, but they must also differentiate biblical Truth from humanistic and Marxist teachings. Our biblical worldview integration explores biblical Truth from God’s Word, teaching students to recognize Truth and discern false teachings. Looking through a biblical lens, students learn to think critically and make decisions based on God’s Truth.
How are biblical values integrated into the curriculum?
At Covenant Journey Academy, biblical integration does not simply mean “tagging on a Scripture verse,” but fully viewing the subject through a biblical lens and learning how to apply God’s Truth to life. Students learn to critically think while applying a biblical worldview to learning, engaging, and taking action.
Does CJA offer Bible courses?
While all classes are developed with biblical integration, grade-specific Bible courses are part of the curriculum for middle and high school students. Focusing on the New and Old Testament, on the application of a biblical worldview, and evangelism, our courses support what you are teaching at home. To see the full list of Bible courses, please see the CJA course catalog.
Admissions Process
How do I apply for my student to attend CJA?
The application process is simple, and you have plenty of help along the way. To start the application, just click on the APPLY NOW button. You will then create an application account, verify your email, and you’re ready to complete your application! The application takes only a few minutes to complete and includes important information, such as family and student details and prior educational outcomes. You will also have an opportunity to upload the documents needed to process your application. Please see the HOW IT WORKS page for more information or complete the INQUIRY FORM, and we will contact you shortly.
What documents are needed in the application process?
To complete your student’s application, you will generally need to submit only a few standard documents. Full-time students will need to submit a birth certificate and academic records. Most part-time students need to provide a birth certificate only. Under some circumstances, other documents may be required. If other documents are needed, our Admissions team is here to guide you through the process. Please see the HOW IT WORKS page for further information or complete the INQUIRY FORM, and we will contact you shortly.
What are the differences between full-time students and part-time students?
CJA offers two tracks or ways for your children to take classes: 1) as a full-time student and 2) as a part-time student. If your child will be taking all of their classes with us, then you will select the “Full-Time” option on the application. If your student will be taking some but not all of his or her classes with us (for example, if you will be supplementing your children’s education with CJA courses), you will select the “Part-Time” option on the application. Please see the HOW IT WORKS page for further information or complete the INQUIRY FORM, and we will contact you shortly.
What are the requirements for Florida residents?
Because CJA is a Florida institution and its high school diplomas meet Florida requirements, full-time students residing in Florida must meet the school entry health exam requirement and appropriate immunizations, unless exemption status is approved, in accordance with state regulations. Please see the HOW IT WORKS page for further information or complete the INQUIRY FORM, and we will contact you shortly.
What are the requirements for non-Florida residents?
For students residing in the United States but not in Florida, CJA may either be a school of record or your homeschool curriculum option, depending on your state’s educational options. State regulations and recognition of out-of-state schools vary. It is parents’ responsibility to understand their state’s regulations and review them regularly. If CJA is your homeschool option (because the state does not recognize out-of-state schools), it is your responsibility to ensure your student meets the educational requirements for promotion, graduation, and attendance. For more information, please contact your Admissions Counselor or visit the Home School Legal Defense Association. We recommend HSLDA membership for all homeschool families.

How are courses delivered to students?
Once classes start, students have access to course learning materials, assignments, and other online resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere in the world. Students do not have to build their days around attending live teaching sessions and can work through their courses on their own timetable. With certified teachers facilitating every class, you can devote your time to helping your child excel. Additionally, our flexible courses enable you to provide unmatched educational enrichment opportunities to your student.
Do your courses include video lectures from teachers? Are there any live sessions for students?
Most courses include video lessons and lectures. All courses require students to communicate with their teachers in a live environment regularly throughout the semester, but there are no live sessions that students attend.
What languages do you offer?
Spanish is offered for each level in elementary and middle school. For high school students, our language department offers 2-3 credits in the following languages:
- American Sign Language
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Latin
- Spanish
Do I need to purchase additional materials for courses?
Most of our courses do not require additional materials. Course resources are generally available inside the course and may include printable worksheets, videos, and other electronic resources. Some exceptions to this may include additional books or equipment. English courses usually require students to secure novels that can be purchased or borrowed from a library. If a course requires an e-textbook, software, or other devices (e.g., a camera for Digital Photography), that requirement will be included in the course description available in the CJA Course Catalog.
What types of assignments can my student expect?
Course assignments are developed to engage students with the learning objectives through engaging, interactive, and rigorous assessments such as homework, quizzes, projects, hands-on activities and labs, oral assessments, multimedia presentations, essays, research projects, discussions, live conversations with instructors, and cumulative exams.
Can we preview courses before enrolling our children?
Yes, families can meet with a member of our Admissions and Recruitment team to view a course demonstration. Current students who are interested in seeing a potential course can work with their Academic Advisor to schedule a demonstration. If you would like to schedule a course demonstration, please complete the INQUIRY FORM.
When can students start courses? Can students take courses at an accelerated pace?
With our rolling enrollment, courses begin each Monday. Students may work at an accelerated pace to complete a course early. The shortest time period permitted is six weeks for a one-semester (0.5 credit) course and 12 weeks for a two-semester (1.0 credit) course. (All course requirements must be met, and only weeks in which work is submitted count toward these minimums.) Please speak with your Academic Advisor for more information.
Do assessments require a proctor?
Quizzes and module tests do not require a proctor. Only the semester exams are password protected, and the instructor will email the exam code to the designated proctor. The designated proctor can be a parent, guardian, or other adult who agrees with the CJA academic integrity policy.
Teacher Credentials and Engagement
Are CJA teachers certified?
Yes, all of our instructors are ACSI Certified. As part of the certification process, teachers are required to complete professional continuing education as well as take courses in the application of biblical worldview into the classroom.
Are CJA Teachers Christian?
Yes, all our teachers profess faith in Jesus Christ and are trained in teaching from a biblical worldview.
How do teachers interact with students?
Before the course begins, students receive a welcome email from their instructor with important information about the course, contact information, and instructions on how to schedule appointments online. Students must schedule a welcome call (by phone or video conference) within the first two weeks of the course to speak with the teacher. Throughout the course, teachers conduct one-on-one conferences to discuss the course material, answer questions, provide feedback on assignments and help students prepare for exams.
How is teacher feedback offered?
Covenant Journey Academy teachers seek to provide substantive feedback for all assignments. Teachers will meet with individual students to ensure they are grasping concepts as the course progresses. Additionally, progress reports are provided to support parents or guardians as they guide the learning process.
Student and Parent Questions
How often will students engage in online coursework each day?
Completing courses has never been more flexible! Students work at their own pace, but most students spend about one hour a day per course during the traditional school week, for a total of five hours a week per class to complete learning assignments and assessments. This allows students to complete the course in the traditional semester or academic year. Students can complete a course more quickly by planning with and receiving approval from their CJA Academic Advisor.
How can students with disabilities request accommodations?
Children with disabilities who have applied and intend to enroll may request accommodations by submitting an accommodation request along with relevant supporting documentation to their Academic Advisor. Once a review of the request is complete, you will be provided with further information on processing your request with your Academic Advisor. Our advising team will work with approved students to assist in developing an accommodations plan. Each child’s circumstances are different, and we review each student’s accommodations on a case-by-case basis. Accommodations are limited to those that Covenant Journey Academy is able to provide and are within the scope of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as long as they do not fundamentally alter the course outcome achievement. To request accommodations, please speak with your Academic Advisor.
I am a parent and am new to homeschool. What resources do you have for parents?
Covenant Journey Academy seeks to provide parents with the information needed for a successful homeschool experience. Through our resources page, parents are provided with valuable information about state requirements for homeschooling, information on providing the best learning environment, and so much more. Our Parent Support Blog offers creative ideas and answers many of your questions.
We live outside the U.S. Can our children attend CJA?
Absolutely. CJA is a Florida institution, therefore, students are required to meet Florida’s graduation requirements. All classes are held in English, so children must be proficient in English. For any high school transfer credit to be awarded for courses taken outside the United States, it will be necessary to have each international course and transcript evaluated by an approved member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). You can review a list of approved evaluation service providers at NACES.org. Some classes offer Spanish translation of written materials. Please contact your Admissions Counselor or Academic Advisor for further information.
What types of technology will our student need?
To be successful with our online courses, students should have a computer or mobile device with a high-speed internet connection. We highly recommend that students maintain a direct connection and not use Wi-Fi during quizzes or semester exams. Students should have the ability to save work to a local or cloud storage and have a minimum operating system of iOS 6 or greater, Android 2.2 (Froyo) or greater, Windows Phone 7.5 or greater.
How do international students or students traveling overseas engage in classes?
Whether in the United States or abroad, students can work in CJA courses. To be successful, students overseas must have access to high-speed internet. If students are traveling and access to the internet may be a problem, students can request a course pause. Please speak to your Academic Advisor for more information.
