1 Peter 4:10 encourages Believers to use the gifts and talents, given them by the Lord, in the service of others. The Academy encourage students and families to engage with their local community through sharing their skills, talents, and time. Service to your community can encourage leadership skills, self-governance skills, recognition of human value, and open doors to Christ-centered conversations. While a time minimum is not required, all students are encouraged to serve. Parents should consider joining their students in acts of service to support student growth and learning.

Parents will be asked to review submitted information and to validate time spent as well as affiliated organization(s). For students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, parents may assist students in completing the form. Students who complete 20+ hours per year of approved Christian Service during high school (9th through 12th grades) will receive special recognition at graduation. Students who complete 10+ hours per year in K-8th grade and 20+ hours per year in high school, while a CJA student, will receive special recognition at graduation. All students, regardless of age or grade, who complete 10+ hours of approved Christian Service will be awarded a certificate at the end of the academic year.Organizations and time spent should be approved by parents. CJA does not approve organizations nor recommend organizations; however, students and families should choose their organization based on the following ideas:
- Faith Based organization, such as a church, mission group, small group, or other such organizations.
- Service oriented, such as food banks, clothing banks, libraries, or other such organizations.
- Mission trips (abroad or domestic) with a variety of focuses.
- Supporting widows, widowers, veterans, elderly, etc.
Some activity ideas could include, but are not limited to:
- Mowing an elderly neighbor’s yard.
- Reading to children at the library.
- Writing thank you cards to veterans or service members.
- Gathering donations for local charities.
- Participating in in Vacation Bible School.
- Leading to supporting Church activities, such as children’s church, choir, missions trips, etc.
Christian Service does not include the following:
- Traditional family chores.
- Hours that are paid.
- Tasks complete for immediate family members.
