Arkansas Expands Educational Freedom
ORLANDO, FL — Covenant Journey Academy (CJA) enthusiastically supports Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ proposed budget expansion of the Arkansas Education Freedom Account program, which would dramatically increase educational opportunities for families across the state.
According to The Lion, the proposed budget would expand the Education Freedom Account program from serving 14,000 to nearly 40,000 students, providing families with increased flexibility in choosing educational paths that best suit their children’s needs. Sanders’ “$6.5 billion spending plan for the fiscal year beginning next July 1 would increase the state’s Education Freedom Account program by $90 million to a total of $187 million.”
Arkansas is one of a growing number of states actively expanding private school choice programs in response to rising demand from parents across the nation. The dramatic momentum of the education freedom movement in America is reflected in part in the wave of private school choice legislation passed in recent years. Between 2021 and 2024, 11 states passed legislation supporting universal or nearly universal private school choice. More than 30 states have passed some form of private school choice program. As a result, over 1 million students (nearly 2% of public school enrollment) participated in some form of private school choice program in 2024 alone.
