Schools are Broken; Homeschool is the Answer, says Former Public School Teacher
ORLANDO, FL — With National School Choice Week here, a firsthand account from someone inside America’s public education system explores several ways in which schools prioritize graduation rates over actual education, resulting in declining standards and what is described as the “dumbing down” of education.
In a recent tell-all article, Hannah Centers, a 13-year public school teacher-turned-homeschooler, provided an inside look at the education crisis. According to Centers, government schools are deliberately dumbing down the American education system and doing irreparable harm to America’s children. Centers exposed several shocking trends in the government school system, including:
- Schools are routinely pressured to pass failing students to protect the school’s interests, such as positive graduation rates, rather than protecting the students’ interests.
- Schools often pass failing students merely because of their age, claiming they are too old to fail.
- Schools artificially inflate passage rates by letting students game the system. Students quickly learn they can avoid work throughout the semester and still pass by doing minimal makeup work at the end.
- Schools often neglect good students by providing excessive accommodations to failing students in order to protect passage rates with few resources left over to provide quality education to students that are passing on their own.
Ultimately, Centers reached the same conclusion that many of America’s parents are reaching today: Homeschool is the answer to America’s broken education system. The recent explosive growth in homeschooling around the nation reflects a deep realization that it can provide a better education and a safer environment than the government school system.
