Tim Matthews
Principal
Tim has worked in the field of education for over 18 years where he has served as Social Studies teacher for grades 9-12 and has experience teaching several AP courses including AP United States Government, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Seminar, and AP Research. He has also served as an adjunct professor for Randolph College and the University of Lynchburg where he instructed World Geography and World History courses to undergraduate students. Tim has worked for over four years for Virtual Virginia where he taught and developed curriculum for several secondary level courses and has extensive experience supporting students in an online academic environment.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Liberty University in Social Sciences with teacher licensure and his M.A. in History from the University of Lynchburg. He has served as the Head Boys Tennis coach, Scholastic Bowl coach, and the leader of his school's chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. At his home church, he is a leader in the Youth Group and the children's ministry program.
Tim truly has a heart for young people and helping them become the next generation of Christian leaders. As the Principal of Covenant Journey Academy, he wants to serve students and their families through personal connections, prayer, student-centered support, and as an educational and spiritual mentor.
